Up for air

Sorry we haven't been blogging. Since leaving Havre on July 1 we have ridden every day except 1, taking the 8th off in Minot ND. We are now going to cross the Red River in Minnesota, and hope to arrive at the Murray cottage on Mille Lacs Lake on Thursday. Of the 11 riding days, we've had 8 days of head winds of degree and strength (several days gusting up to 25) and camped through a couple of magnificent thunderstorms. We spent about 600 miles on US 2, then for the past 3 days have enjoyed very quiet state highways going from Rugby ND to Fargo. Mosquitos nearly carried us away during a 100 mile stretch in eastern Montana. We had a great 4th of July fireworks display in Culbertson, MT, and enjoyed the Ft. Kipp Pow-Wow held the same day. The scenery in North Dakota has been fantastic, and we finally are seeing crops other than wheat and alfalfa: corn, soybeans, sunflowers, potatoes. We continue to meet very friendly, generous and interesting folks all along the way.

We are going to slow it down a little now and enjoy the scenery. Minnesota has several paved bike trails which we are trying to link to get us Mille Lacs and perhaps beyond. More detailed info and pictures when we get a chance to do more than laundry, bike maintenance and rest on our next day(s) off.

By the way, Fargo is a pretty nice town.

  1. Hopefully the tailwind I had headed east to work this morning will continue your way...coasting @ 24 mph with rustling grass and trees all around. Happy sailing! Bill M.

  2. I have only met you folks through a little friend named Gracie, that you met at an ice cream shop in Montanna. Since then I have been enjoying reading your blog. Praying that God will continue to bless you as you peddle your way through this great land that was founded on HIS holy word...God Bless, Katie in Idaho.
