Eastbound at last!

Our journey finally turned eastbound Monday morning 9;15 am as we left Florence and headed to Triangle Lake - halfway to Eugene OR. Now that we don't have a headwind blowing at us, the pressure to leave early has lessened. The ride along the Siuslaw River and Lake Creek was beautiful. We took seveal breaks along the ride, one at Deadwwod Market where we met a young man who started in Eugene heading west to dip his wheel before beginning his eastbbound x-country trek. We told him he would probably catch up with us in a few days.

We arrived at Triangle Lake campground about 2 pm, welcomed by Sharon who runs the place. Later that afternoon, the east-going Petersons met the south-going Peterson(s to be). We feel so blessed that Tom and Trisha took an extra travel day in their move to CA to share an evening with us. They treated us with wine - I won't say how much - and we treated them to our specialty camp stew. We had a blast with them, explored a natural water slide nearby - 3 adventuresome souls took the 'plunge' many times - and played cribbage.

We parted ways the next morning about 8:30 and made it to Eugene at 1:30 after stopping by the Co-Motion factory and meeting the folks who made our bike. Thanks Pete for taking so much time with us, giving us a great tour and allowing us to meet the team.

In Eugene we checked into a nice little motel, and dropped the bike off at Hutch's Bicycles for maintenance. Many thanks to Mark and the shop staff at Hutch's for fitting us into their busy schedule, allowing us to stay on ours. Sorry, I meant to get a picture to include in the blog.

During our day off here we've walked all over town and taken care of a bunch of business and prep and planning for the next week as we travel across the Cascades. It sounds like we are in for some real visual treats!

Here is the Co-Motion team that built our bike:
  • The whole gang
  • Pete, Customer Service and our guide
  • Ben, Welding
  • Karl, CNC Operator and Mitering
  • Mic, Painting
  • Zach, Shipping

  1. How cool that you were able to meet the actual people who made your bike! I bet that doesn't happen to them often.

Hope the Cascades treat you well! Love you!

  2. The yellow majic marker put another mark on the map. Did Tom and Trisha agree to do the same trip in 35 years (2044)? Hugs Pop

  3. Reuben & Teresa - excellent to hear your progress so far, the pics are great and your narrative really captures the sense of adventure - keep it up and Reuben save one of those cigars for me
